Samples from 18th century assessment 2015-16

1] What influence did the ‘new philosophy’ — science — have upon politics, society, and culture during the 18th century?

Science was the backbone of the enlightenment because it provided hard evidence for revealed truths about the [natural] world that had previously been attributed to acts of God and superstition. It validated rational thought [which was now applied to other aspects of European society and culture].
