The HB Point Blanket was (and still is) manufactured in England and was one item that the Native Americans desired, as wool is more pliable than leather and insulates even when wet. The points – or small lines – stitched into the blanket denote its size, such that traders could make deals without unfolding and measuring the blanket. Traders could also measure the length of other objects along the side when the blanket was used as a surface of exchange. The Hudson Bay Point Blanket has achieved iconic status today in Canada as a symbol of the history of trade relations between First Peoples and Europeans. Canadian universities, for example, still give First Nation graduates a point blanket.
